On October 25, 2023, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) School of Law's delegation, consisting of Dean Zhang Haibin, Vice Dean Wang Weichen, Dean's Assistant Zhao Shouzheng, and the Master of Laws Office Teaching Secretary Xing Yiming, visited Landing Law Offices in Shanghai for a significant exchange session. During the visit, Director Liu Yixing comprehensively outlined Landing's journey from its establishment to its current state and highlighted the firm's accomplishments in foreign legal services. Embracing the ethos of "Specialized Services, International Vision, and Seamless Collaboration," Landing is committed to the Belt and Road Initiative, aspiring to emerge as a top-tier, globally influential law firm pioneered by Chinese professionals. In a remarkable span of five years, Landing has experienced a meteoric rise, establishing a robust, multidisciplinary system on the North Bund of the Huangpu River. The firm has made significant inroads and achieved commendable success in vital areas such as international investment, major global dispute resolution, international financial mergers and acquisitions, and digital economy initiatives. Notably, Landing is at the forefront of launching China's first metaverse legal service platform project. Executive Director Yin Jun highlighted the synergy between Landing's expertise in foreign legal services and SISU's dedication to cultivating multilingual legal talents, paving the way for extensive collaboration and the establishment of a pioneering metaverse legal service practice platform. Drawing on her rich experience in integrating language proficiency with legal practice, Senior Partner Hu Min proposed insightful suggestions for this collaborative endeavor.
Dean Zhang Haibin of the School of Law at SISU presented an overview of the school's innovative multilingual and legal education model, its current enrollment trends, and the future trajectory. He highlighted the school's dedication to nurturing multilingual legal professionals who possess an international outlook, adept cross-cultural communication skills, and exceptional language proficiency. The Law School's unique Master of Laws program features a tripartite mentorship model, providing each student with mentors in professional, practical, and linguistic areas, ensuring their continual advancement in legal theory, practical legal experience, and language proficiency. This pioneering education model, integrating multiple languages with legal studies, positions the institution at the forefront in China's legal education landscape. The program currently incorporates 20 lesser-known languages with legal studies and is expanding to 26, aligning seamlessly with Landing Law Offices' vision for international legal service development. This collaboration is poised to optimize students' linguistic prowess in professional settings, easing the transition from academic training to professional practice. Vice Dean Wang Weichen affirmed that Landing's international and digital legal practice platform would significantly bolster students' legal and linguistic competencies while broadening their global perspective. Assistant to the Dean Zhao Shouzheng proposed enhancing the partnership through increased dialogue and expanded collaborative avenues.
A consensus emerged between the two institutions to swiftly establish a collaborative educational platform, both internally and externally. SISU and Landing are committed to deepening their cooperative efforts, focusing on developing practical training programs for the next generation of international legal professionals in China.
